The Vietnam War took place primarily in three different countries: Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
The War Environment:
•Some fought on open plains while some cut their way through the jungle or waded in rice paddies.
•Guerilla Warfare of hit and run tactics were widely used by the Vietnamese
•Most Americans who went served in other duties like machine moving, medical care, or communications but still dangerous
-The Air War:
• Johnson hoped to use air power to secure a quick victory by prolonged bombing
• The Goals: 1. Assure South Vietnam of American commitment
2. Destroy Vietcong supply lines
-The Ho Chi Minh Trail:
• Network of jungle paths used by Vietcong
• To move weapons and supplies to the South
-The Ground War:
• North Vietnamese, instead of surrendering, sent more troops and supplies south
• U.S. troops grew from 3,500 to 486,000 from 1965-1967
